SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Fakarava, Tuamotus Archapeligo, French Polynesia – The famous Grouper Spawning

The humans have been driving me CRAZY!

We sailed away from the “perfectly pleasant”  rich volcanic Society Islands to the desolate low lying Tuamotu atolls and all they talk about is DIVING.

They insist we have to be at the

SOUTH PASS of FAKARAVA atoll for the first full moon of July.

What is all the fuss about?

First, we had to drop off some long awaited fresh supplies to mates at the atoll of TOAU and have a ‘catch up’ on their quarantine time in the TUAMOTUS.

Then, we had to ride out a mara’amu to get a weather window to sail.

What is a MARA’AMU you ask?

You will have to watch the silly little video below to find out.

Weather window aquired we sailed off to Fakarava.  Down the outside of the atoll Toau, across to Fakarava and then inside the north pass.  Not a single fish caught for dinner and the humans actually timed the pass entry to coincide with slack current.

Once inside the atoll you are protected from the ocean and sailing can be lovely and flat. We headed down to anchor on the south end.

Attatched a little video for the sailing buffs.

So the humans got here in time.

And they managed to get one of the government open moorings.

So nothing left to do but let the humans go diving.
