SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Moorea, Society Islands, French Polynesia- Entertaining ourselves

French polynesia

When we last left you we had just celebrated New Years day with the friendly Stingrays of Opunohu Bay.   We finally got some internet and have added pictures and video for you on that last blog entry.

Now we have an internet link, here are just a few other things we got up to on our short visit to the island.

The anchorage on the Northeast corner of Opunohu Bay, Moorea
Off exploring the bay from the anchorage
The kayaks give the humans give the humans the freedom to explore the bay here and admire the volcanic peaks
A shrimp farm at the head of Opunohu Bay is open to the public every Wednesday
Here you can purchase freshly caught prawns
The hard working staff size and weigh up the prawns for you
What do you do with all those prawns? You have a beach BBQ.
Next we dragged the crew of s/v Bella Nave up a mountain side
There are extensive archaeological sites to visit along the hike
They have lots of information posted in English
French Polynesia has no snakes. But it does have a centepede with a nasty bite.  This is the first time we have seen one.
The island is known for its many pineapple farms. You will see them along the hike.
The boys were happy to finally reach the top
Great view over both Opunohu and Cooks Bay
Cooks Bay the most popular stop over on the island for cruise ships

Supper Deb from s/v Bella Nave worked her magic and made you guys this video to enjoy.

The next day the crazy humans decided to go cycling in the tropical heat to visit Cooks Bay
These Foley bikes have small tires, but thankfully the island’s ring road is basically flat
The beautiful Cooks Bay is much more developed than it’s neighbours with hotels, shops and restaurants
After a long cycle into town the humans escaped into the a.c. of the local grocery store to cool off. They are so easily amused.
They said they had free internet, but the humans could not resist buying a pizza with the works
Then back to the beach side anchorage of Opunohu Bay
A quiet birthday celebration for one of my humans at this lovely anchorage

After our down wind sail here, the humans realised it might not be as pleasant a sail back to Tahiti.  Thankfully a window of NO wind and 0.5m swell opened up and we used that to quietly motor on back to Tahiti.  It was an easy gentle short trip.

We will get the last of our jobs done in the city of Papeete and head off again on new adventures and drag you along with us.
