SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Panama to French Polynesia – Heading further out into the big blue bit on the charts – Day 20

Position: We are a few days West of the Galapagos Island in the Pacific Ocean. Our position is:

00 44.73N 96 47.32W

*Note: I am told you can copy and paste these coordinates into google earth and it will show you where we are.

Mileage:2736 – 2593 nm= 143nm

Number of miles to go: 2593nm to go of approx. 3850nm. We are about a third of the way to French Polynesia now.

Fish count: The count remains at 3 Mahi Mahi, 2 Cero and 6 tuna. One Marlin that we were happy got away! To rough today to safely get the rods out AGAIN.

A THIRD OF THE WAY THERE
Well we have covered a third of the way to French Polynesia. It only took over two weeks to get this far. A bit depressing, especially if you are a dog. If we were to continue at this rate it would be over a month before we got to the other side. But do not worry. Wind forecasts for the journey ahead say we will EVENTUALLY sail into some more favorable winds. As you can see we are able to make better mileage already now that we are not beating directly into the wind and waves any more.

THE BIG BLUE SECTION OF THE CHARTS
Now we are past the Galapagos Islands there is nothing between here and French Polynesia. Just a big expanse of blue water. It is this expanse, and some of the risks involved, that put most people off of crossing an ocean. There are no ships chandeliers along the way to pick up parts you need. But I know my humans will do fine. Pacific Ocean, here we come.

Hoping those fair winds and following seas come soon!
We should cross the equator tomorrow or the day after. Got a few things set aside for a little party for Neptune. More on that later.
