SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Panama to French Polynesia – Leaving the Bay of Panama – Day 5

Position: We are sailing South West out of the Bay of Panama. N07′ 57.5′ W79’19.9′ Mileage: We did not get started until lunch time so only 30nm so far Number of miles to go: 3780nm to go of approx. 3850nm
Fish count: So far today we have gotten 1 Cero, 2 tuna and a Mahi Mahi. So the count goes up to 3 Mahi Mahi, 2 Cero and 2 tuna.

ANOTHER THUNDER STORM LAST NIGHT
Not as bad, but still a reminder that it is time to get out of Panama. It was a rainy start to the day, but it did not stop the humans busily getting everything ready for departure and one last long walk on the beach.

GREAT FISHING AND LOTS OF DOLPHINS
As soon as the humans put the fishing lines in the water, we were catching fish. We had heard the bay, especially around the islands, were great for fishing. Every time we are joined by a pod of dolphins the lines go again. The humans have a dolphin ID book and the ones we are encountering are called Pantropical Spotted Dolphins. The dolphins are too clever to caught by our lures thankfully.

SO WHAT IS IT LIKE?
Not too bad. The waves are reasonably gentle and well spaced. You still loose your balance a bit as the boat dips and rolls, but still able to cooks and write blogs with out any troubles. And most importantly…reel in and clean all those fish.

WHAT NEXT
Well we have about 60nm to cover to get out of the Panama Bay and out of the way of most of the shipping traffic for the Canal. It will get dark soon and we will start taking sleeping shifts after our Mahi Mahi dinner. Yum, Yum.

SEEMS OUR LUCK HAS CHANGED AND HOPEFULLY THE DOLPHINS ARE A GOOD SIGN FOR A PLEASANT JOURNEY AHEAD. END
