The Bahamas
With the morning light, and after my run on the beach of course, we headed off into the calm settled waters of the Great Bahama Bank to Wax Cay Cut.
Sailing in the lee (protection) of the Exuma Cays makes the shallow waters here on the Bank very calm.
It is so calm here the humans even got a game of backgammon in.
Although they should really be looking out for obstructions. The Great Bahama Bank is very shallow and riddled with moving sand banks. All of which are easy to spot……if someone was out front looking!
The humans anchored us off on a sand bank on one side of a cut (Wax Cay Cut) through the Exuma Cays. Here the waters of the Atlantic Ocean flowed with each passing tide bringing fresh nutrients to the organisms inhabiting the coral reefs on the other side of the cut.

The humans did not waste any time jumping into their kayaks and crossing over to the reefs on the other side of the cut for a snorkel.
You can always tell a reef system is healthy when you spot some top predators.

Speaking of top predators, the humans had an ulterior motive for visiting this reef. They were hoping to bag some lobster for New Years eve dinner.

Happy New Years everyone!

Happy New Year April, Cain and Quinn….Wow what lovely scenery as I sit in our living room watching our son in law blow snow from our driveway. We are in the snowbelt here in Orillia and so far have been lucky. We did however have a green / brown Christmas this year. It is very unusual for us, but boxing day and days after made up for it…We are very impressed with your lobster catch for dinner last night and are , as I type eating one of those shrimp rings from M & Ms nothing like the seafood you are eating…take care in your sailing and be safe…thanks again for keeping in touch…Hugs Rose and Lloyd
