SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Abacos, Fowl Cay – Another stop at a Marine Park

The humans just can not get enough of snorkelling here in the Bahamas.  The waters are clear, shallow and full of life.  Mooring balls have been set up in the parks for you to tie your dingy to, so there is no excuse to miss out on the best places to dive.

For all these reasons, and more, the humans decided to stop off at Fowl Cay for a dive before continuing on to Great Guana Cay.

All the best snorkelling is on the Atlantic side of the Cay, but the reefs on this side are too shallow and extensive to risk bringing in the ‘big’ boat, so we anchored up on the Sea of Abacos side and used the dingy to circle round to the reefs.

The dingy ride through the reefs was not as easy as the humans had first thought.  The coral rose up from the sea bottom to just below the waters surface, ready to take out the prop of any passing outboard.  They had to pick their way through channels of deeper water to get to the best sights.

But they were well  rewarded with some great snorkelling.
