SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Eleuthera Island, Rock Sound – Weather reports?

We are still anchored up at Rock Sound.  My least favourite beach in the Caribbean.  But I hate the rain more then I do the pebbly beach here.

The humans just started listening, after recommendations from other cruisers, to Chris Parker  (SSB 4045MHz).  He offers a more detailed weather forecast of the Bahamas using a variety of computer models, but it is his opinion.

His ‘opinion’ was that we would get hit by some squalls here in Eleuthera.  So the humans decided to sit out the wind and rain storms and collect some fresh water.

Of course, after all this it did not rain.

The humans did not want to pass up an opportunity for good free water so, after checking with locals, they collected water from the standing pipes on the south end of the beach.

They also cause a mini ‘ecological disaster’ by giving the sides and bottom of the hull a little scrub.  All those aquatic plants and animals made homeless!

Friday night they headed to ‘the’ restaurant to check out happy hour(s).

Lovely place, and great view, but not really a ‘happening place’ out of season.  They met a lovely American couple, Jeri and Paul, who have a home on the island and offered their hospitality.

Still none of the predicted rain in sight the humans decided to stick around anyway and visit the local fair.

Some games, food and music all set up by the local parish, you know where the male human headed to first…..food!

At the fair the humans met some fellow cruisers, that ignored Chris Parkers forcast to sail here, and a group of American nursing students on a job experience placement.  What a great place to work for a few weeks.

And guess what…

The rains finally came!  And boy did they come pouring down.

Sods law, after the humans had worked so hard to fill the tanks.

I hate getting rained on, so I talked the humans into delaying their departure, but the rain has not stopped yet and they are getting anxious to get moving North, so I may yet get my paws wet.
