SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Hao Atoll, Tuamotu Archipelago, French Polynesia- Heiva Celebrations – The videos

The humans posted all my pictures of the Heiva celebrations in the last blog.  Now here are some videos.

Some of the activities in the first week of Heiva had to be rescheduled as a strong Mara’amu blew through French Polynesia.  Everyone raced for shelter, the village in Raiora flooded and the locals said it was the strongest wind storm they had seen in 5 years.  We were very happy to be sheltered up in the tiny boat harbour just outside of the village.  The video footage does not really tell you what it was like to ride out the strong winds for a week.

Thankfully the winds eased and celebrations could continue.  One thing we never expected from our Polynesian hosts was their love of silly games.  The MC always got the audience up off their seats for intermission.  Hope these clips make you laugh.

Last but not least the Heiva’s grande finale was a giant dance competition. Everyone had been working all year towards this. The music, costumes and dancing was amazing. We can only share a few clips with you, but sit back and enjoy.

Hope you enjoy!
