SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Panama to French Polynesis – Isla Pedro Gonzales, Las Perlas Islands, Bay of Panama – Day 3

Position: STILL IN THE SAME SPOT! Isla Pedro Gonzales of the Las Perlas Islands in the Bay of Panama. N8’24.05′ W79’04.93′ Mileage: YOU GUESSED IT, ‘0’ again!
Number of miles to go: Still 3810nm to go of approx. 3800nm
Fish count: No improvement here either. Still only 2 Mahi Mahi and 1 Cero. Number of coconuts has gone up. We have to have something to mix with our drinks as we have bad news about the water supply.

BAD NEWS ABOUT THE WATER MAKER
The humans were covered in sweat, grease and sea water but no luck. The pistons are moving, but the water is not. The poor dears spent a beautiful tropical day either on the cabin table replacing every ‘O’ ring (seal) or in the engine room looking for possible air leaks in the water intake. No luck. The water in the intake pipes just go back and forth. No suction. The humans will get some emails out to the gurus of water makers. No chance of looking anything up on the net. Another reason why you should carry a basic owners manual ‘in written form’ of most of your major systems. Not that it has been any help this time.

GOOD NEWS
As long as we do not linger too long in the Las Perlas we should have enough water to make it across the Pacific. The newly fitted sail water pump should help. It is good that we did not take Russell’s advice and fill our spare water tanks with Rum. But then again, if we ran out of water, we would have had a good time forgetting why that might be a problem. But rum is no good for puppy dogs!

SO ONE LAST DAY HERE
Weather looks good to go. Our plans are to move to the last island of the Las Perlas tomorrow. Just for a change of views and access to more coconut. I like to chase the coconuts, but a the humans need to conserve water, it is mixer for their last drinks before they set sail. We have two dive tanks to fill, from cleaning the bottom and prop well and I am sure they will have one last go at the water maker.

SO THE NEXT STEP IS TO CROSS THAT GREAT BIG PIECE OF WATER. But perhaps just one more rum cocktail and beautiful beach before we go. END
