SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Plana Cays – peach sands and shell hunting

We sailed away from Mayaguana Island off towards Acklins and Crooked Islands with a planned stop at The Plana Cays.

Most of the Islands of the Bahamas are very 'low lying'. The island of West Plana Cay is no exception

Not many boats stop here, and the islands are uninhabited.  They are the last undisturbed habitat of the hutia.

*  If you fancy a chuckle, look up these rare giant Bahamian rodents.

As you can see the anchorage on the west coast of West Plana Cay offers no ‘real’ protection from the predominant Northerly swell.  luckily, when we visited, the swell was coming out of the NE with the firm Easterly winds, so we did not find it too rolly.

But I will not ruin this lovely place with too many words.  Instead I will just give you a few images of the fun we had here.

And ‘no’ it is not a trick of the light.  The beach really is PEACHY.
